Mickenson and His Mother

A Haitian mother holds her baby son Mickenson, born with a cleft palate. She is talking to Phoebe Rusch, a Princeton student volunteering in Haiti, inside the family’s home in Cite Soleil, a slum in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on July 12, 2012. Rusch arranged for Mickenson to have his cleft palate fixed, but he died before his surgeon arrived in November.
