Margarita embraces her daughter Katherin, 9, during the car ride home after receiving positive news at her ICE check-in appointment in Burlington, Mass., Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The Honduran immigrant learned she no longer needs to purchase tickets to leave the country and will not need to check in again for a couple of months, providing relief from the nearly weekly appointments she had been required to attend. The outcome came amid a surge in ICE enforcement operations in Massachusetts, where agents arrested 1,461 people in May under the Trump administration’s mandate to arrest at least 3,000 immigrants daily nationwide. Margarita, who has lived in the U.S. for 10 years and wears an ankle monitor, had faced the possibility of detention at the appointment. Katherin is a U.S. citizen.
