Rockland, ME — 8/10/21 — Lobsterwoman Virginia Oliver tosses back an undersized lobster as she and her son, Max, haul together in the Gulf of Maine. At 101 years-old Virginia may be the oldest lobsterwoman in the world. “I grew up with this,” said Virginia Oliver, a Rockland woman who began lobstering when she was 8, just before the Great Depression. Oliver said she has no intention of retiring. When asked how long she would continue lobstering, “Until I die,” she said. “And I don’t know when that will be.”
