Enterprise Launches Taunton Daily

taunton enterpriseBROCKTON, Mass., April 5 - After decades of including Taunton as part of a zoned edition of its daily newspaper, The Enterprise of Brockton, MA, today launched the Taunton Enterprise.

With a distinctive masthead, which includes an historic architectural scene from the city center's well-known city green, the seven-day daily newspaper will focus on the people, issues and concerns of Taunton residents with exclusive local news and features.

"The city has seen considerable social, economic and demographic changes during the past decade. It is poised to become a force in one of the fastest growing regions of the state," said Kirk Davis, publisher of The Enterprise and CEO of parent company Enterprise NewsMedia LLC. "It's time it had a newspaper that reflected that significance."

The Taunton Enterprise represents the first of what may be a series of "micro-zoned" daily news products from Enterprise NewsMedia. Such customized dailies would provide intensely local coverage to urban and suburban population centers, in the tradition of New England's vibrant newspaper industry.

"Building on the strengths of our 126-year-old, award-winning regional newspaper, we'll bring Taunton readers not only an intensely local home-town report, but will also have the resources to offer a broader context on issues impacted by events in surrounding communities and throughout the state," said Chazy Dowaliby, editor.

Content for the daily will include general and spot news reports, spotlights on community members of all ages, local sports and a strong emphasis on reader participation, both in the local news and local opinion columns of the paper.

The newspaper has developed a coordinated program of marketing and advertising opportunities for local businesses, as well as customized home delivery service for residents.

Taunton has 23,000 households and is located in Bristol County, MA, 32 miles southwest of Boston.

Enterprise NewsMedia LLC of Quincy is the predominant source of local news and information in the South of Boston region. The privately held company publishes two daily newspapers; The Patriot Ledger of Quincy and The Enterprise of Brockton; 23 weekly and bi-weekly newspapers, including the flagship Old Colony Memorial in Plymouth; and the Plymouth Guide for tourists. In addition, Enterprise NewsMedia operates the SouthofBoston.com website and the recently launched Wicked Local hyper-local websites.

NFL Bans Local TV Photographers
From Covering Games

(March 30, 2006) – The National Football League’s 32 team owners have voted to adopt a new policy that removes local television affiliates from the sidelines of all NFL games. Television photojournalists from local stations in the NFL teams’ area will no longer be allowed to shoot from the sidelines during the game, preventing them from capturing game action images to show on news and highlight shows.

NAB President/CEO David K. Rehr issued the following statement; "On behalf of our more than 1,100 member local television stations, the National Association of Broadcasters strongly urges the NFL to reconsider its wrongheaded decision banning local television station sideline cameras at professional football games. Local TV coverage of the NFL has been a key ingredient in the success of professional football. By taking this action, the NFL demonstrates an appalling lack of appreciation for the role broadcasters play in serving local communities. NAB will aggressively pursue reversal of this outrageous NFL decision." More >>
