The Boston Press Photographers Association Pictures of the Year 2023 College Contest is now open for entry. The deadline is 11:59 PM on Tuesday April 16, 2024. To enter the contest please use this form. Here are the Rules and Guidelines for entering the contest. (**Please note there have been changes to the categories- pay attention) All entries must have been taken by a student either currently enrolled in a college, university, or professional/ certificate level photography program located in New England; or a resident of a New England state attending a college, university, or professional/certificate level program outside of New England. Help spread the word about the contest by encouraging any college students you know to enter. If you know a photography teacher, please let them know, too. Photo by 2023 Photographer of the Year and inaugural Elise Amendola Best in Sports Award winner Erin Clark/ The Boston Globe This year we announced a new category in honor of our dear friend and colleague, Elise Amendola, a legendary Associated Press Photographer who we lost in 2023. There are really no words to thank Mary Schwalm for attaching an annual cash prize to this new category in her wife’s honor. We hope this will be an added incentive for all of you to hone your sports skills and make images that would make Elise proud. From May 14 to June 12, 2023, the Boston Press Photographers Association held its third annual outdoor exhibition in Boston Common near Park Street Station and at Jamaica Pond (near the boat house), featuring the award-winning images from the 2022 annual Pictures of the Year Contest. The images were displayed on eight separate six-foot by six-foot “photo cubes.” We held an exhibition opening on May 18, 2023, at the Boston Common location from 6-8pm. 2022 BPPA Photographer of the Year: Erin Clark / The Boston Globe Best in Show: Ziyu Zhu / Boston University The BPPA’s 2022 Pictures of the Year College Contest winners have been announced.
